Bed Bugs!!!

Guess what we found in our bed last week! Bed bugs! I know what you're thinking. Bed bugs aren't real. It's something you tell your kids at night when you put them down for bed: "Don't let the bed bugs bite!" You're wrong! They are real! And they're gross!!! (See picture to the left.)

They hide out under your mattress, in your nightstand, behind pictures on your walls, just about anyplace they can get in to. Then, when you fall asleep, the creep out and suck your blood!!! No joke!!!

I'd like to take this opportunity to inform you that we are not sleeping on our own mattress. My company put me up in a corporate apartment, so I blame the company that our apartment complex used to furnish the place.

On Sunday this week, the apartment complex put us up in a hotel. We stayed there through Thursday. During that time, they removed every stick of furniture from the apartment and had the place treated by a pest control company. We were confident that we caught it in time, and that we weren't experiencing an full on infestation in which case we'd have to burn everything we own. However, this morning Amber woke up with what appear to be more bites, so we're not so sure we've gotten rid of them.

Isn't this crazy?!!! Doesn't the thought of it make you itchy? I didn't even realize that these things existed. The news in Boston last week had a story on bed bugs, indicating that there is an "epidemic" in New England. Had I known this before accepting this assignment, I may have reconsidered. My mom also read an article in the Houston Chronicle this week that said bed bugs are "making a comeback". Like a baseball team? Can't we get the Red Sox of pest control to take care of these things?

So if you're wondering how our time in Massachusetts is going, ask us next week. This week hasn't been a great one. Amber went to Oklahoma this morning to visit her mom for a week. I've got odds that she doesn't come back. She may go straight back to Houston after her visit. If you see her in Texas, give her my regards.
